If you enjoy 'clubbing' and the bright lights, Gozo
is not for you! It is a peaceful island, not least because there are
no direct air connections. Access is only by the 25 minute ferry from
the main island of Malta and the occasional sea plane. There are many
good restaurants and dining out costs roughly the same as it does in
the UK. The island has a strong Catholic culture and there are 52
churches, some of spectacular size and decoration. Gozo is a lot less
crowded than Malta although it suffers mini invasions by the Maltese
on the frequent Festa days.
Boat trips abound and there are many beautiful
walks. Some of the oldest free standing structures in the World (a lot
older than Stonehenge) are to be found. There is one large and
beautiful sandy beach and many other, not so sandy, smaller beaches
and coves.
Gozo is often claimed - especially by those
promoting tourism - to be the island of Calypso. She was the fabled
nymph who supposedly imprisoned Odysseus in her cave for seven years
after his ship was wrecked in the bay.
The apartment does not have a swimming pool,
however, day membership can be obtained from two hotels which both
have pleasant swimming facilities. |
